Every year, the Incentive Research Foundation (IRF) conducts a survey in conjunction with MeetingsNet to help keep its pulse on the latest trends in incentive group travel. This year's survey gathered the opinions of 182 incentive travel planners, and highlights a few significant industry-wide trends such as growing budgets, a spike in popularity for unconventional destinations, and tailored program apps. As incentive travel planners continue to look for ways to meet participants' demands for "authentic, unique, personalized experiences," it seems that the industry's resurgence is offering numerous ways of achieving this.

The Benefits of Outsourcing Meeting/Event Planning

Posted by Kate Cardoso

Fri, Aug 05, 2016 @ 09:13 AM

We recently had a company approach us about planning an event for them to celebrate a very important, company-specific anniversary. Initially, this company was deciding between two options: they were either going to organize an internal committee to plan and execute the event, or they were going to outsource it. A member of the committee was our contact and professed concern about their ability to plan an event of the size and complexity that they envisioned. This concern was due to the fact that the committee members all had regular full-time jobs and not a single member had any real experience with event planning. We presented them with a price for our services that was very fair based on what they required; however, when compared to what this company had paid in the past for their event planning — i.e. $0! — the amount suddenly seemed rather high to them.

Incentive Travel Destination Spotlight: Ireland

Posted by Kate Cardoso

Thu, Apr 07, 2016 @ 12:30 PM

I participated in a familiarization trip in October to Dublin and County Clare, put together by Meet in Ireland. It was a wonderful experience! The trip started with a workshop at the Royal Hibernian Academy where hundreds of buyers from across the U.S. and Canada were able to meet with Irish suppliers – hotels, DMCs, venues, etc.  The buyers each had a small table and the suppliers rotated through based on a schedule we had selected ahead of time. It was nice to be the one situated at the table accepting visitors instead of the other way around, as it usually is at these things.

It’s chilly January days like this when our minds tend to wander to warm, palm tree laden places along some coast somewhere. Well, nestled between Nicaragua and Panama in South America, bordering both the Caribbean Sea and North Pacific Ocean, is one such place – beautiful Costa Rica! Let me paint the picture for you…

Incentive Travel Destination Spotlight: Portugal

Posted by Paul Ferreira

Thu, Oct 29, 2015 @ 12:00 PM

Blending new-world luxury and convenience with old-world charm, Portugal offers one of the more enchanting experiences to be had in Europe. In terms of incentive travel, this somewhat under-the-radar destination has gone through something of a renaissance in recent years, with more and more groups beginning to reconnect with the country’s inviting culture and relatively cost-effective price tag. Between its exceptionally hospitable people, outstanding food, beautiful beaches, and the wide variety of sightseeing opportunities it offers visitors, Portugal provides an incredible canvas for almost any type of incentive trip. What’s more, it offers participants much of the modern European appeal, but at a cost that’s significantly more affordable than other major European destinations such as Rome, London, or Paris.

An Incentive Journey To The Middle East

Posted by Kate Cardoso

In May, I took a trip to Dubai and Abu Dhabi to evaluate these amazing cities as potential destinations for corporate incentives and meetings. Both were truly unlike any place I’d ever visited before. Going to the UAE was a safe and comfortable way to experience the Middle East, as the country is fairly liberal and accepting of westerners with all of our different customs and clothing, yet still offers a unique and vibrant culture that is distinctly Middle Eastern.

Rome, the Eternal City, is famous the world over for its cherished history, outstanding cuisine, and dazzling array of artistic and religious artifacts. A Personal Touch Goes a Long Way

Posted by Paul Ferreira

It seems like in this increasingly globalized world it’s easier now than ever to feel lost among the crowds, whether it’s in the congestion of a big metropolis or the fun-and-sun luxury of a mega-resort. As a third-party incentive company, the latter can prove to be an unpleasant obstacle when it comes to the planning of a group trip. With a large resort, there’s always the concern of how to make the program more personalized so that it provides the type of recognition and appreciation that the client is looking for; there’s also the practical challenge of organizing a group of 100-plus individuals on a 100-plus acre property so that they all have opportunities to socialize with one another (which is often one of the big selling points of these sorts of trips).

As the most popular tourist destination in South America, it’s no surprise that Argentina also boasts the most visited city on the continent, Buenos Aires. This consistent influx of visitors has helped shape Buenos Aires into a truly cosmopolitan capital, with a vibrant and sophisticated culture that’s especially conducive for incentive trips. Regarded as “the Paris of South America,” the city is home to more than 300 theaters, including the famed Teatro Colón, countless museums, a nightlife crackling with energy, and some of the most delicious cuisine in the world, blending Old World influences with exotic South American flavors.
